At first I thought this was going to be my longest look at a “questionable play” ever. Hah. Nope.
The gif starts with a two second freeze frame so don’t think it isn’t playing.
First off, Jackman’s side is directly parallel to the boards at this point. At the rate of speed he’s traveling, that’s how he should end up. I’ve seen Cookie go for this hit a million times. One of those million times was less than three feet from my face and it was a perfectly legal hit.
Now, the red circle is highlighting the last visible frame in which Jackman’s skate is parallel to the boards. Cooke is at the perfectly angle for a normal hit. But follow Jackmans’s skate all the way around. It’s turning into the boards. Now at first glance, some people who aren’t so fond of Cooke might say, “but he turned him into the boards!” Not so fast there! The only reason Cookie ends up the way he does is because Jackman is turning. Had Cookie not turned with Jackman, Cooke would’ve essentially anally penetrated Jackman which would have also snapped Jackmans spine. Butt sex and a free trip out on a stretcher? Don’t think either of them would’ve enjoyed that.
Jackman put himself in a dangerous position, and all Cooke did was avoid it.
Done.
